Carbon Steel Lock Nut - Overview

A Carbon Steel Lock Nut is a type of nut made from carbon steel that is designed to resist loosening under vibration or torque, making it ideal for applications where a secure and stable connection is needed. These nuts typically incorporate a locking mechanism, such as a nylon insert, to enhance their gripping action and prevent loosening.

Mechanical properties
The load holding and hardness requirements of carbon steel nuts refer to the standards for ordinary carbon steel nuts, and can be accepted by referring to standard ISO898-1 (mechanical properties requirements for carbon steel nuts). Stainless steel nuts only refer to the load holding performance requirements of carbon steel nuts, and do not require hardness.

02/

Self-locking performance
Carbon steel locking nuts can be stamped by a die to deform the thread by about 3 teeth. After deformation, the inner diameter of the thread is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the bolt thread. Therefore, the friction between the threads after the nut is tightened is much greater than that of ordinary threads, which can effectively prevent loosening.

03/

Reusability
Locking nuts can be reused, but it is not recommended to disassemble and install repeatedly. After multiple disassembly and installation, the locking torque of the nut will decrease significantly (the fifth disassembly and installation will decrease significantly compared to the first disassembly and installation).

04/

Installation method
When installing locking nuts, they must be tightened with the help of tools (such as ratchet wrench). When installing stainless steel nuts, it is recommended to pre-apply grease to prevent the nut from locking during rapid installation.

FAQ

Q: What is the best type of lock nut?

A: For heavy-duty and industrial applications, all metal lock nuts such as stainless-steel lock nuts, mild steel, zinc, or brass locking nuts are preferred. However, part-nylon or all-plastic lock nuts are also popular in many applications, provided the torque forces they will need to withstand are not too severe.

Q: Where do you put a lock nut?

A: It's a straightforward process: Just as you'd do with a typical nut, place the lock nut against the threaded end of the bolt. Hand-tighten the lock nut. If the lock nut has a raised center area, ensure that the nut's flat surface sits flush against the surface once tightened.

Q: Which threadlocker is best for vibration?

A: For high-risk vibration or shock scenarios, opt for red threadlockers, the strongest adhesive grade, providing the highest resistance to vibration, shock, and torque as a permanent solution.

Q: Which way should a lock nut face?

A: Lock nuts are designed to be installed with the locking mechanism facing away from the material being fastened. For nylon insert lock nuts, this means the nylon ring should be positioned at the end of the threads, away from the surface being secured. For other lock nut types, like stover nuts or keps nuts, the specific locking feature (e.g., the raised or chamfered edge) should also face away from the material being fastened, ensuring the flat side of the nut sits flush against the surface.

Q: Are you manufacturer or trading company?

A: We are manufacturer.

Q: What's your best delivery time?

A: Within 15-30 days.

Q:  What is the quality control of your product?

A: Follow strictly quality control measures for implementation,

Q: Will your company provide free sample?

A: It depends on which sort of item you want to get. Some can be provided free of charge, however, the client shall assume the shipping fees himself.

Q: Is OEM open to clients?

A: Yes, we can provide both OEM and ODM service.

Q: How can our company be your distribution partner?

A: We welcome you to be our distributor. For further details, please contact us.

Q: What is the payment of sample?

A: T/T and Alipay both acceptable.

Q: What is your sample policy?

A: If we have stock, we can provide samples, but the customer must pay the sample fee and express fee Question.

Q: Have you tested all your goods before shipment?

A: Yes, we will conduct 100% test before delivery, and we will send detailed photos of parts for your approval Question.
