Preparation Before Leveling
Before you begin leveling, please ensure:
Platform Cleanliness: Wipe the platform surface with a clean, damp cloth to remove dust, grease, and other dirt, as dirt can severely affect the adhesion of the first layer of material.
Tool Preparation: Prepare the necessary tools for leveling, such as a spirit level (to check if the platform is level) and knobs or screwdrivers for adjusting the platform height.
Leveling Methods
1. Manual Leveling
This is the most basic and commonly used method.
Check Platform Level: Place the spirit level on the platform surface and observe whether the bubble is centered. If the bubble is off-center, the platform is not level.
Adjust Platform Height: By rotating the adjustment knobs or screws at the bottom of the platform, gradually adjust the height of the four corners of the platform so that the bubble in the spirit level is centered at all positions on the platform.
Verify Leveling Effect: You can print a simple test model and observe whether the first layer of material adheres evenly to the platform. If one side adheres well and the other side does not, further fine-tuning is required.
2. Automatic Leveling
Some advanced 3D printers are equipped with an automatic leveling function.
Run the printer's built-in automatic leveling program. The device will automatically detect the height of each point on the platform using sensors and calculate compensation values to maintain a consistent distance between the nozzle and the platform.
When using automatic leveling, it is crucial to correctly set the Z-axis offset (i.e., the distance between the nozzle and the platform) to ensure good printing results.
Precautions
Regular Checks: Platform levelness can change due to use, temperature changes, and other factors. Regular checks and adjustments are recommended.
Avoid Over-adjustment: When manually leveling, adjust slowly and in small increments to avoid overtightening or damaging the adjustment mechanism.
